Living Life In The Passenger Seat

We all want to be in control of our lives, but what happens when we are living life in the passenger seat? We are trying to stop the car by stomping on the floorboards but because there are no pedals, we have no control of the car.  We are checking to see if there are obstacles in our path without the proper view.

How Do You know?

We are going through the motions to change our lives, but things don’t work out like they should.  We are taking the necessary steps, however, we are forgetting to ask ourselves some important questions.

-Am I trying to change things from the Passenger Seat?

-Am I steering a car that isn’t running?

-Am I driving a car with four flat tires?

The Answers?

First, let’s start with The Driver.  Are you behind the wheel or not? Are you hitting the gas or brake from the Passenger Seat? This has to do with what you can control. Are you putting a lot of effort into something you’re unable to control? This is often done because it gives us a false sense of security in our lives.

Second, is your Car Running?  Are your ideas flowing but life is at a standstill? You’re making changes but still, no results?  What kind of energy are you putting into these ideas? This has to do with “Potential.” When you take action, you have the “potential” for results.  The results depend on the kind and amount of energy we put into our ideas.

Lastly, are you driving on Flat Tires?  Are you working with ideas and people that are holding you back?  Are you making it through each day or treading water so you can survive?  These are all effects of letting people, thoughts and ideas hold us back. They appear in the form of “If only” statements.

What can you do about living life in the Passenger Seat?

-Recognizing you are sitting in the Passenger Seat is a big step.  This realization will begin to bring your life back into perspective.

-Acknowledge what you “can not” change.  There will always be parts of our life that will be difficult to alter. Maybe they are not ours to change, maybe they just play a role in our life.  Old ideas that no longer serve us, need to be let go. Your past does not define the future.

-You have to take real meaningful action.  You can plan and you can decide. But, until you take action, change will not occur.

– Finally, don’t be afraid to redirect your path.  Just because you begin one journey, doesn’t mean that is your final destination. Things change, goals change and you change.
